Scaling Agile Across Organizations

Agile Across Organizations  Track

Agile Across Organizations track of the World Agility Forum - Reimagining Agile - day 3!

I want to be part of this!

As Ugur Sahin, CEO of BioNtech, said recently: "When the need is urgent, like when the world needs a new vaccine, there's no time for contracts." The alliance between BioNtech, Pfizer and Fosun Pharma is a great example of cross-company collaboration based on 'trust' - a strong focus on shared leadership and open, honest communication. Experience in this stream the next stage of business Agility - Scaling Agile Across Companies!"

Speed-Dating for Businesses - Feel the power of Collaboration

With Mirko Kleiner

Recent supply chain disruptions such as the chip crisis have shown that Business Agility doesn't stop at the company door. Over the last 7 years, Lean-Agile Procurement has become the leading approach to finding / selecting new partner(s). Experience in an interactive workshop the power of collaboration / co-opetition and how it's possible to procure e.g. a new ERP System in just 2 days having 3 competitors in the same room simultanously. Learn the pitfalls, fuckups and success criteria's from real stories from around the world. Believe it or not this even works in the public sector!

This workshop simulates the most important cornerstones of a Big Room Workshop allowing the participants to:

  • Be inspired by stories from around the world (private & public sector)
  • Learn what a Big Room is at all and how to create an environment ready for co-opetition
  • Experience how negotiations & contracts change when agile values & principles are applied
  • Accept that to solve complex problems with partners, the people and the human & cultural fit are as important as the business fit

Agility in Crisis Management

With Tim Cummins

For years, health authorities had warned of a pandemic. Yet when COVID-19 hit us, the world was largely unprepared. In these challenging conditions, ‘agility’ took many forms, but perhaps the most interesting was the critical search for a vaccine that would allow a return to ‘normal’ economic and social activity.

This presentation is the story that lies behind the Pfizer vaccine and, specifically, the co-creation that occurred between BioNTech, Pfizer and Fosun. It provides a lesson in trust, but more importantly a trust that was embedded in a formal structure. Incorporating a short video featuring Ugur Sahin, CEO of BioNTech, we will explore what this case study tells us about the commercial frameworks for truly agile development involving supply networks or ecosystems.

Attendees will learn about how to evaluate and plan commercial frameworks for agile development, considering the appropriate timing and mix of contracts, governance and relationships. We will also explore how an agile approach alters when it involves a supply network or ecosystem, as opposed to a more traditional supply chain.

Scaling Scrum for Hadware across Organizations

With Paolo Sammicheli

Although Scrum is becoming more widely used in the hardware development industry, scaling it across numerous teams and organizations is still difficult. In this talk, we'll look at the challenges of scaling Scrum for Hardware and discuss how to deal with them using [email protected] patterns. We will also review the best approaches for scaling up with partners, vendors, and remote teams. Finally, we'll give a real-world example of how the [email protected] patterns were used with an IoT development. Participants will learn how to use [email protected] patterns to succeed in challenging, multi-team contexts and how to scale Scrum effectively with hardware development.

Attendees will learn about:

  • Challenges in scaling Scrum for Hardware
  • [email protected] patterns for scaling Hardware
  • Scaling up with remote teams, partners, and vendors
  • A real case study from an IoT development with pictures and company data.

Collaborative Partnerships in the Biofuel Industry: the Enerkem Story

With Jérémy Bégot & Sophie Durand

You would think that the petrochemical industry, circular economy and renewable energy sources are a huge paradox?

Well, meet Enerkem. They are currently revolutionizing the industry by "turning trash into green gold". Enerkem is the first company in the world to produce renewable methanol and ethanol from non-recyclable, non-compostable municipal solid waste at full commercial scale. Their agile and innovative mindset extends to their ways of working. In late 2022, they decided to experiment with Lean Agile Procurement to choose the engineering partner that will help them design their first European plant in Tarragona.

Beyond the aggressive Time To Market, their innovative processes and ways of working led them to reconsider entirely the cooperation model with their partners, based on close collaboration & mutual growth.

Learn how Enerkem was able to select their partner in less than 3 months.

Do you still have doubts? Check out related talks from previous years!
